It can be difficult to take your first step and know where to go.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most thoroughly researched and effective talking therapies.
CBT looks at the links between what you think, what you feel and what you do. When we're overwhelmed, our minds can overestimate threat and loss, and the ways we cope can keep problems going. CBT helps you spot those patterns and change them.
It's not a magic wand, and it won't rid you of every unpleasant emotion. Your therapist isn't a guru holding back secret insight until you're ready. I'm an expert in the methods; you're the expert in your own life. We work it out together.
Collaborative: we agree goals and decide together what to focus on
Practical: you learn tools and try them out between sessions
Focused on now: we look at the past where it helps explain the present
Time-limited: many people need fewer sessions than they expect
