CBT for insomnia and sleep problems

A tabby cat fast asleep on a blanket

Ok, not quite this much!

Exhausted all day, wide awake at night.

When your brain senses a threat, it keeps you alert. That made sense for our ancestors. But your mind can't always tell the difference between real danger and an unanswered email, a worry about money or a racing to-do list, so it stays on guard just when you need to switch off.

The things we do to cope, like lying in late, napping, an extra coffee or scrolling in bed, often help in the short term but make sleep worse over time.

How therapy helps

CBT for insomnia is a structured, practical approach. Together we'll:

  • Understand what's keeping your sleep disrupted, including your body clock

  • Adjust your routine and environment to rebuild a healthy sleep pattern

  • Work on the worries and racing thoughts that keep you awake

  • Break the link between bed and frustration

I can help with

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep

  • Waking early and not getting back to sleep

  • Sleep problems linked to stress, anxiety or low mood

  • Anxiety about sleep itself

I’m a London-based Counselling Psychologist, and all sessions take place online, so you can join from home wherever you are in the UK. Sleep problems often go hand in hand with stress, anxiety or low mood; you may also find my pages on stress and burnout and anxiety helpful.
